Welcome Home Team Australia

Invictus Games Toronto 2017 might be over but the celebrations continue for Team Australia.

Competitors and support staff from the Australian team joined members of parliament and senior officials of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) on Wednesday for a welcome home function at Parliament House.

The event acknowledged the fighting spirit, courage and determination displayed by the competitors throughout their Invictus Games journey.

In Toronto, Australia’s 43-strong team joined more than 550 competitors from 17 nations for a week-long celebration of sport.  The Aussies returned home with 51 medals and numerous personal best performances.

Competitors participated in both individual and team sports including athletics, archery, cycling, golf, indoor rowing, the Jaguar Land Rover driving challenge, powerlifting, sitting volleyball, swimming, archery, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby and wheelchair tennis.

The Australian Defence Force’s Adaptive Sports Program, including the Invictus Games, is one way the ADF supports its wounded, injured and ill members, and this experience offers renewed confidence to face future challenges in their rehabilitation.
