Walk and talk in support of Invictus Games Sydney 2018

Member for Manly James Griffin, Minister for Veterans’ Affairs David Elliott and Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan led the way along Manly beachfront to launch a Walk and Talk track in support of Invictus Games Sydney 2018 presented by Jaguar Land Rover.

The Walk and Talk track is designed to encourage community members to be active and connect with friends, family members or colleagues to improve mental and physical wellbeing in celebration of the healing power of sport.

The 2.6 kilometre track stretches along Manly beachfront from Shelly Beach to Queenscliff and is marked by a series of conversation starters. The activation will run until 27 October when Invictus Games Sydney 2018 concludes.

Mr Griffin said he is thrilled the Manly community is embracing the ‘Invictus Spirit’.

“This is a great opportunity for all of us to learn more about the links between physical and mental health and the importance of being active and staying connected with our support networks,” said Mr Griffin.

“I hope that this activation will inspire our community to enjoy a walk from Shelly to Queensie in support of the Games.”

Mr Elliott said he hopes that everyone will share in the spirit of the Invictus Games by participating in a walk and talk or purchasing a ticket to support the competitors.

“This will be an incredible and memorable event. I encourage everyone to attend the Games and cheer on the competitors as they turn adversity into opportunity,” Mr Elliott said.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said the Council is proud to support Invictus Games Sydney 2018.

“We’re so pleased to be able to support Invictus Games Sydney 2018 and let all servicemen and women and veterans in our community that we’re behind them,” said Mr Regan.

Manly has previously hosted a panel of former Australian Invictus Games competitors and veterans to raise awareness of the Games and in October will host a welcome event for over 350 family members and friends of competitors at the Quarantine Station.
