The Invictus Games Sydney 2018 sport competition schedule will kick off on Friday 19 October with the Golf Open presented by ISPS Handa, an event to be held at the New South Wales Golf Club.Â
An anticipated 29 competitors from eight nations, and 16 of their family and friends, will join a host of special guests for 18 holes. Our newest nation Poland is leading the way with nine competitors followed by last year’s hosts Canada with seven. Among the special guests will be Invictus Games Sydney 2018 Ambassador and former Wallabies captain Stephen Moore and some of Australia’s top amputee golfers. Â
Shane Luke, Stephen Prior and Geoff Nicholas play off handicaps of 1, 0 and 0 respectively. Their outstanding golfing abilities showcase how golf is accessible for all and can help players overcome mental and physical challenges.Â
Sir John Key GNZM AC, former Prime Minister of New Zealand and ISPS Handa Patron will also be hitting the course. Not only is Sir John Key a keen golfer, he is a great supporter of the Invictus Games movement, having attended previous Games.Â
After the competition, all players will come together for lunch and trophy presentations. Awards will be given to the winning male and female competitors as well as to the best team, longest drive and closest to the pin.Â
ISPS Handa (International Sports Promotion Society) are proud to be an Official Supporter of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 and are committed to promoting adaptive golf. Â
ISPS Handa was established following an inspirational game of golf where founder Dr. Haruhisa Handa played against vision impaired Australian Ron Anderson. Anderson’s prowess on the course showed how golf gave every sportsman, regardless of injury or disability, the opportunity to play to the best of their potential. Over a decade since its inception, ISPS Handa along with their global Patrons and Ambassadors continue to champion the power of sport and promote the inclusivity of golf across the world. Â
The Golf Open presented by ISPS Handa is a closed event, however tickets are still available for other sport sessions and the Closing Ceremony. Over 90 percent of tickets have already sold so get in quick >>>
