Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Australia joins #MakeYourMarkDownUnder campaign

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Australia will encourage its 38,000 Participants nationwide to ‘make their mark’ in support of Invictus Games Sydney 2018, presented by Jaguar Land Rover.

Passionate about raising awareness of the healing power of sport and supporting the adaptive sports community, the Award will build the campaign into its core communications for 2018.

The Award believes participation will allow for greater engagement within adaptive sports groups nationwide and highlight the inclusiveness of the youth program which is accessible for all to take part in.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Australia CEO Mr Peter Kaye AM, recognised the Award program as a powerful tool for encouraging young adults to excel in setting and achieving personal goals no matter their circumstances. It also allows the development of crucial skills that will assist them in life and pursuing a meaningful career.

“I’m looking forward to the Award’s involvement with this year’s Invictus Games as we also feel it’s important to support serving and former serving military personnel and disability sports overall,” said Mr Kaye.

“This has been a passion of ours in building a community that is accepting and inclusive of all people.”

Invictus Games Sydney 2018 CEO Patrick Kidd OBE, welcomed the significant support the Award can offer and hopes the #MakeYourMarkDownUnder campaign will ignite interest amongst Award participants nationwide.

No matter where you are or what you do, there is a role for you in Invictus Games Sydney 2018. This is a moment in time for us to all come together as a nation and actively demonstrate support for our defence community,” said Mr Kidd.

“Having the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award join this campaign provides a significant platform to drive long term impact in the community as we look to generate a broader understanding of the sacrifice of service, the challenges of living with mental illness or physical disability, the value of resilience and the healing power of sport to assist recovery and rehabilitation.

“We are grateful for the Award’s support and look forward to working together in the lead up to the Games in October.”

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a personal development program that allows for youth leadership and strong citizenship and offers all young Australians aged 14 – 25 the opportunity to experience personal achievement through a balanced program of individual challenge and team work.
