Continuing its long history with the military, the Australian Turf Club will support the fundraising efforts of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018, presented by Jaguar Land Rover.
The first fundraising collection took place at the recent Anzac Day meeting at Royal Randwick and the NSW Caravan Camping Holiday Supershow at Rosehill Gardens.
The Australian Turf Club will offer further support through special race days during the year, including functions, race naming and monthly charity collections leading up to the Games in October 2018.
The Australian Turf Club’s history with military reaches back to the early 1800s when horse racing first began in Sydney with the involvement of the 73rd Regiment.
Royal Randwick and Warwick Farm also played vital roles during the Boer War, World War 1 and World War 2.
Australian Turf Club Chairman Laurie Macri said the new partnership under the ATC’s Community Engagement Program recognised shared values.
“The ATC is privileged to be able to join the cause with the outstanding competitors who will compete in the Invictus Games Sydney 2018,’’ said Mr Macri.
“Working together with the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 helps to highlight the great service that our men and women in the military give to their country and our communities.’’
Patrick Kidd OBE, CEO of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018, said the Games are much more than a sporting event.
“We are grateful to have the support of Australian Turf Club with us on our journey to Invictus Games Sydney 2018,” said Mr Kidd.
“The Games highlight the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation, and generate a wider understanding of and respect for those who serve their country.”
