Invictus Games Sydney 2018 staff recently welcomed Deloitte volunteers to IG2018 headquarters as part of Deloitte’s Impact Day initiative.
Held each November, Impact Day is the dedicated day for Deloitte employees to take the firm-provided 7.5 hours of volunteer leave. This year approximately 4,000 Deloitte people signed up to provide support to 400 charity events, making 2017 their biggest year yet.
Six Deloitte staff supported the IG2018 marketing team for the day, helping on graphic design, digital and social media projects.
While their skill set was varied, the Deloitte volunteers were united in their support of active and veteran service personnel.
Nik Wright, a product design manager at Deloitte, said working with the IG2018 team was a good opportunity to acknowledge those who’ve served.
“I have always had strong links with the armed forces as my father served in the British Army for over 30 years,” said Wright. “My wife’s cousin was killed in Afghanistan and I know friends that have suffered after returning home from battle.
“Invictus Games Sydney 2018 is doing amazing things for servicemen and women and their families. I hope our work on Impact Day will help promote the Sydney Games and raise awareness of this great event’s cause.”
Van Le, a 15-year Deloitte stalwart, also wanted to give back to the veteran community.
“Growing up l always wanted to serve in the armed forces but this did not eventuate,” said Le.
“I wanted to find a way to support and thank our servicemen and women who have given so much to their country and to help them move forward.”
Rachel Bell, a senior design consultant at Deloitte Digital, was excited to volunteer her design skills to Invictus Games.
“Deloitte’s Impact Day gives us the chance to step away from our usual day-to-day work, and immerse ourselves in activities that utilise our skills to make a truly meaningful impact,” said Bell.
